Join the staff of the EcoLab for a fun filled morning of bird
activities. Migratory Bird Hike (7:00 -- 9:00 AM). Join us an hour
earlier than our usual meeting time for some ìextended birding
timeî as we revel in the sights and sounds of migrant thrushes,
vireos, and warblers. This is truly one of the best weeks in Indiana
to be a bird-watcher! Meet at the colonnade. Planting Natives is for
the Birds! (9:00 -- Noon). Get your hands dirty with the crew of the
EcoLab while we plant several hundred native plant plugs along a
riparian corridor. Stream corridors make important stops along
migration if they are well fortified with native foods (seeds and
insects). Meet us in the parking area just east of the main EcoLab
pond.
The Phenomenon of Avian Migration (10:00 AM). Of the approximate
650 bird species that nest in the United States and Canada, over 500
of these are migratory. This slideshow will chronicle some of these
incredible journeys and discuss the facts behind this pervasive
natural event. Meet in room 157 of Marian Hall. Bird Games, Booths,
and Activities (10:00 -- Noon). Join us for fun bird activities
including family activities at the soccer field just north of the
main pond in the EcoLab.
